Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site

Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site is a 19th-century coastal artillery fort on the Colwood, British Columbia side of Esquimalt harbour, (Greater Victoria/Victoria BC Metropolitan Area). The site is adjacent to Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site, the first lighthouse on the west coast of Canada. Both the fort and lighthouse are managed and presented to the public by Parks Canada, and are open every day (except Christmas Day).

Rodd Hill was named for John Rashleigh Rodd, 1st Lieutenant on the HMS Fisgard (Capt. John A. Dunze. Rodd was later promoted to rear admiral in 1877; vice admiral in 1884, and admiral in 1888.

12 minutes @f5 taken 1/2 hour before moonrise. I was just killing time before the moonrise and managed to get in some star trails. I adjusted the white balance to get a little more pleasing sky colour, it came out a sickly green. The street light from the pier behind me lit up the adjacent break-wall with an erie glow, and the building behind me cast a shadow on the water...

Le phare du Cap Alright, aussi appelé le phare de l'Échouerie, du nom d'une plage située tout près, a été construit en 1928. On le trouve dans le village de Havre-aux-Maisons aux Iles-de-la-Madeleine. Il est toujours actif.

From Highway 199 northbound take the Chemin de la Pointe Basse, then the Chemin des Echoueries; from Highway 1999 southbound, take the Chemin de la Dune du Sud, then the Chemin des Montants and the Chemin des Echoueries. I love this lighthouse at Heart's Content....built in 1901, it is located on the rugged coast of Trinity Bay, Newfoundland. Not far from this lighhouse is the location of the landfall of the first transatlantic cable which successfully carried a telegraph signal from Queen Victoria to President James Buchanan on August 16, 1858.
