The Point Reyes Lighthouse warned mariners off this treacherous stretch of coast from 1870 to 1975. The lighthouse is located far down the cliff in order to be below the often high lying fog characteristic of tis coast. Forged of iron plate and bolted to the rock, it has withstood winds recorded at up to 133 m.p.h.. Today an automated light station continues to a light point considered to be the most foggy and windy in the United States.

Raining at Point Reyes Lighthouse

Point Reyes National Sea Shore is located north of San Francisco about an hour driving distance along sea shore.

It was raining heavily when we visited Point Reyes National Sea Shore. There were still many visitors even though it was very raining with strong guest wind. There are 308 steps following the road leading to the lighthouse. The numbers are marked on the steps when you climbing up.

The navigation duty of the light house has been unloaded to the modern simplified version on the side. In WS, I have provided a closer view to the lighthouse.

PS: On the side of rock, there are some plants in red color called alga. That's the first time I saw this kind of need-not-soil plant.
